Thompson School District Dual Language Program
The TSD Academic Dual Language Program helps learners to communicate in many languages.

Students will speak, read, and write in two languages.

High academic achievement in both program languages

Students will communicate and work with people from different cultural backgrounds. Interculturality provides pathways to open-mindedness to other cultures.

The TSD Dual Language Program is about “languages for all.”
Students should have participated in the previous grades TSD Dual Language Immersion program. Another dual language program or a district-approved Spanish Language assessment are also options. All Dual Language courses are 100% in Spanish.
The TSD K-5 Dual Language Elementary at

Students may enter the TSD Elementary Dual Program until the first semester of Grade 2. After this time they may take a district-approved Spanish Language assessment. This test determines if the student is at the appropriate level to be successful.
The elementary dual language program is a two-teacher team.

The English half teaches language arts, social studies, and science in English.
-
The K-2 Spanish-speaking teacher uses the other half of the day to teach Spanish literacy and math.

In grades 3-5, the English-speaking teachers highlight English literacy and math.

The 3-5 Spanish-speaking teachers focus on Spanish literacy, social studies, and science. All Dual Language courses are 100% in Spanish.

Dual Language Advanced Spanish Language 1:

Dual Language Social Studies provides a greater understanding of social studies.

This course focuses on the

culture, and

government of various specific world societies in North, Central, and South America.
Specific content aligns with Colorado Social Studies standards for Grade 6.
DL Advanced Spanish Language 2-7th Grade

focuses on language, literacy, and cultural competencies. Students will express their thoughts and interact with other speakers of the language.
Students will understand messages in Spanish using the three modes of communication.

Interpersonal speaking and writing;
-
Interpretive reading and listening and
-
presentational speaking and writing.
There will be an emphasis on diverse cultural themes. There is also an emphasis on cultural resources from the many Spanish-speaking countries.
Dual Language Social Studies, grades 2-7

provides a greater understanding of social studies.
This includes

geography,

civics and

government,
-
economics, as well as other topics in the grade 7 curriculum.
This course focuses on the

There will be an emphasis on diverse cultural themes using authentic resources.
DL Advanced Spanish Language 5

focuses on language, literacy, and cultural competencies.
Students will

express their thoughts,

interact with other speakers of the language, and

understand oral and written messages in Spanish.
They will use the three modes of communication:

Interpersonal speaking and writing;

Interpretive reading, listening and

presentational speaking and writing.

Students will use authentic cultural resources from the many Spanish-speaking countries.
Students can take the AP Spanish Language Exam and earn college credit. The university decides on the amount of credit.
